outSIDEin
outSIDEin is an interactive light installation for transforming the atmosphere of the shattered pedestrian tunnel at New York City Subway‘s 191st Street station of the number 1 train. Artificial light simulates a striking natural effect of light emanating from the sky, which is projected through false cracks of the ceiling in the pedestrian tunnel. Lights are programmed to imitate the color and intensity of the daylight outside of the tunnel. When the weather outside is very sunny, the light projected inside through the cracks is bright and yellow. When the weather outside is foggy, the light is blue.
This project is also planned to be installed in the Museum of Senses that is being build in the tunnel Grič in Zagreb.
Professor and architect Neda Cilinger founded the Museum of Senses as a depository for collecting and displaying site-specific technology based art in the tunnel Grič. The tunnel was constructed in a year 1943 as a wartime bomb shelter. It lies north of Zagreb’s boulevard, Ilica, and runs parallel with the borderline between the new and the old city of Zagreb. It is 350 meters long and consisted of four corridors that occupy the total floor space of approximately 2000 square meters. Professor Cilinger’s objective has been to revive this landmark of Zagreb by converting it into an internationally recognized unique platform for digital art and urban media culture, the Museum of Senses. The interior of the tunnel will be filled with interactive multisensory artworks in all forms and formats, from installations to performances.
This project was invited by Professor Cilinger to be installed in the Tunnel Grič, and it will be developed in partnership with the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Zagreb. The process of developing these installation will serve as research project that will generate valuable theoretical and practical knowledge about multisensory experience in art and architecture.
