ARTIST Maja Petrić is a contemporary artist working with light, computational systems, robotics, and environmental phenomena to create immersive installations and evolving sculptural environments. Her practice explores the relationship between human perception, the natural world, and the technologies through which we increasingly experience it. Drawing on the sublime, her works transform fleeting atmospheric conditions, ecological change, and traces of human presence into visceral encounters with forces that often remain beyond our perception. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/588d9dd3440243895c46b28f/1661443213074-PJXSLDOSFGYK75JMW1GC/madart_waamol_3_cmp.jpg About - ART PRACTICE For more than two decades, Petrić has developed custom computational and physical systems in collaboration with scientists and engineers. Rather than treating technology as a neutral instrument of progress, she reclaims and subverts its underlying logic, redirecting systems designed for measurement, optimization, and control toward experiences of uncertainty, interdependence, and wonder. Her recent work examines the tension between technological preservation and the impossibility of holding onto a changing world. Landscapes become evolving archives of light; robotic systems attempt to reconstruct disappearing forms of life; human presence is translated into luminous traces that accumulate over time. Through these works, Petrić questions not only what technology allows us to perceive, but how it shapes what we value, remember, and ultimately choose to preserve.
