SPEAKING

I speak on various aspects of  innovation through the artistic use of experiential technologies, particularly lighting. Below is the list of my latest speaking engagements.

LIGHT, ART AND BIOPHILIA
Webinar for Philips' Lighting University, February 2017

Both light and art are potent tools to affect peoples’ psychosomatic states. We can manipulate light to evoke sensations that engage body, mind, imagination and emotion. This power is enormously transformative, touching on essential strands of the human experience; feelings, perceptions, moods and thoughts. If used properly, we can use light, art and biophilia to heal and restore, a theory backed by scientific research.

Attend this webinar to learn about the use of light as a creative tool, and its potential to evoke profound responses in combination with art and biophilia (nature-inspired design). You will discover innovative methodologies in modulating lighting based on personal needs, and the application of these methodologies to enhance individuals’ wellbeing.

THE MEETING POINT OF LIGHT, TECHNOLOGY, AND ART
Keynote Lecture at IEDLuce, Madrid, Spain, March 2015

"I use various technologies to create immersive art spaces. During my practice, I discovered that light is the most potent tool to do that. Light is everywhere. Light affects every experience. All living beings have an innate response to light. By its very nature, light is an immensely potent tool to shape spaces and arouse visceral responses.

I focused my studies on learning about light as an artistic tool. Since there was no recorded body of knowledge on the topic, I started researching scientific, technical, and historical aspects of light independently. I used my findings to write a book on the history of light in art and to design the first-ever master degree program on light art, offered by European Institute of Design."

TRANSFORMING THE POETIC EXPERIENCE OF SPACE THROUGH LIGHT
Keynote Lecture at Microsoft Research Headquarters, Redmond, WA, USA, January 2014

Transforming the Poetic Experience of Space through Light investigates theoretical and practical artistic methods of manipulating senses through which the space is experienced cognitively and emotionally. The focus is on innovative use of experimental lighting that engages perception, emotion, memory, and imagination.

Theoretical research focuses on historical and contemporary references that demonstrate transformation of spatial experience by means of manipulating light. Practice based research investigates both traditional and progressive principles of spatial design, fabrication, lighting design, audiovisual systems, and algorithmic composition. The interest is in exploiting technological advancements in lighting that can fuse perception of senses and add to the phenomenological experience of the artistic intentions.
