STUDIO

At Maja Petrić Studio, artistic questions drive technological invention. Working in close collaboration with computer scientist and roboticist Mihai Jalobeanu, Petrić develops original computational, sensing, and robotic systems that expand the possibilities of artistic expression.

The studio operates as both an artistic practice and an experimental research environment, where technologies are invented, reconfigured, and redirected toward purposes beyond those for which they were designed. This approach makes technological systems both instruments of creation and subjects of critical inquiry.

The resulting works unite conceptual ambition with technical experimentation, transforming complex systems into experiences that challenge perception and reconsider our relationship with technology and the natural world.

HYBRID PRACTICE

maja Petrić

Artist / Director BIO

Maja Petrić is an internationally exhibiting artist whose practice brings together light, environmental phenomena, computation, and emerging technologies. For more than 20 years, she has developed new forms of sculpture and installation that make fleeting and often imperceptible aspects of the natural world physically present.

Her work ranges from intimate atmospheric sculptures to responsive environments and architectural-scale installations, and has received international recognition including the Lumen Prize, Digital Art Award for Innovation, and Richard Kelly Light Art Award.

She is Founder and Artistic Director of Maja Petrić Studio and holds a PhD in Digital Arts and Experimental Media from the University of Washington (DXARTS) and a master’s degree from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP).
